Gift Shop input evidence register
45 financial inputs with their assumptions, calculation bases and cited sources.
Read the supported claim, observation period, geography and units together. A source access date records when it was consulted. A model assumption identifies a selected amount or target; a calculated result follows from those inputs and does not establish observed demand or a quoted opening budget.
Case updated October 19, 2026. These notes accompany the complete case methodology and source register.

These notes explain the opening budget, annual forecast and calculator assumptions. Linked sources provide the support described in each note; they do not necessarily confirm the selected amounts. Check scenario assumptions against local quotes and operating records.
- Model assumption
Applies to: Total opening budget · Lower opening budget · Upper opening budget
Selected opening USD scopes: base 170000 for an already fitted 1200 sq ft gift retailer; low 112000 for about 900 sq ft, less installed work and a narrower range; high 260000 for about 1600 sq ft with more installed work, stock and reserve. Canonical item-order vectors: low [10000, 12000, 5000, 25000, 8000, 6000, 6000, 40000]; base [25000, 18000, 6000, 40000, 12000, 9000, 10000, 50000]; high [50000, 28000, 10000, 60000, 18000, 14000, 15000, 65000]. Totals reconcile. These are authored coordinated scopes, not observed percentiles or contractor offers.
- Model assumption
Applies to: Minor fit-out and installed lighting
25000 USD allowance for minor fit-out, installed lighting, safe displays and site-specific accessibility/occupancy work in a fitted shop. No shell build, structural remediation or food-production installation; actual scope and approvals are unverified.
- Model assumption
Applies to: Display fixtures and checkout counter
18000 USD for reusable display shelving/tables, card racks, wrapping surface and checkout counter, delivered/assembled. No custom production line or unpriced decorative fit-out; actual installed supplier offers needed.
- Model assumption
Applies to: POS, stock systems and security setup
6000 USD for POS/stock hardware setup, scanners, basic security and network installation. Recurring software/connectivity belongs in overhead. No inventory integration or hardware offer audited.
- Model assumption
Applies to: Opening landed merchandise inventory
40000 USD landed opening merchandise asset, selected across decor, accessories, sealed food gifts and stationery. Illustrative 50% landed goods share implies roughly 80000 USD retained sales value before loss and mix effects; this is no stock valuation guarantee. Supplier credit is not assumed. Opening stock is funded once; sold cost and replenishment cash have different timing.
- Model assumption
Applies to: Deposits, permissions and professional setup
12000 USD: 8000 selected lease/utility deposits plus 4000 permissions, registration and legal/accounting setup. Refundability and tax treatment depend on agreements; the exact product list and retail-food permissions need jurisdictional checks.
- Model assumption
Applies to: Paid pre-opening work and launch outreach
9000 USD: 6000 paid pre-opening receiving, training and merchandising plus 3000 launch outreach. These precede trading, separate from full annual operating payroll and recurring marketing.
- Model assumption
Applies to: Uncommitted opening contingency
10000 USD uncommitted opening contingency, separate from liquid operating reserve and recurring upkeep. No automatic contractor entitlement or stock commitment assumed.
- Model assumption
Applies to: Liquid operating reserve
50000 USD selected liquid operating reserve after the other opening uses. Shared ramp operating draw is a partial diagnostic, not proof of cash sufficiency. Actual reorders, prepaid seasonal stock, payroll dates, sales-tax remittances, debt, tax and replacement investment need a calendar.
- Model assumption
Applies to: Revenue (Years 1–5)
Selected constant-2026-dollar sales: 42 USD net/completed order ×40 completed orders/day ×6 trading days/week ×4.33 weeks/month. Mature monthly revenue 43646.4; annual 523756.8 rounds 523757 in years 2–5. Year 1 ramp shares [0.5, 0.58, 0.66, 0.74, 0.82, 0.9, 0.98, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1] sum 10.18 mature months, giving 444320.352 rounds 444320. Sources supply planning and occasion context only, not this store's basket, local capture or growth.
- Model assumption
Applies to: Sold goods, stock loss, packaging and payment costs (Years 1–5)
Variable operating-cost grouping is 55% of unrounded net sales: 50% landed sold merchandise, 1.5% unrecovered stock loss, 0.5% ordinary wrapping/bags, 3% blended payment allowance. Year 1=244376.1936 rounds 244376; years 2–5=288066.24 rounds 288066. Net sales already remove ordinary discounts and selling-value refunds. Opening inventory and supplier cash are not charged again; mix and markdown change cost behavior.
- Model assumption
Applies to: Paid owner, retail team, relief and employer allowance (Years 1–5)
Selected full economic labor 137640 USD/year, unchanged in constant dollars. Owner 40 h/week×26 USD×52=54080; lead 28×21×52=30576; assistant 24×18×52=22464; relief 8×18×52=7488; gross 114608. Comprehensive authored 20% employer/leave/benefit allowance 22921.6 gives 137529.6; 110.4 annual rounding provision gives 137640, or 11470/month. Owner 40 h includes 12 buying/admin hours. Total 100 paid hours/week; 88 available for floor/receiving/break roles. No second buyer-manager. Owner compensation is an economic cost, not a legal tax classification.
- Model assumption
Applies to: Occupancy, systems and recurring operating overhead (Years 1–5)
Selected fixed overhead 66000 USD/year=5500/month: rent 2800; occupancy pass-through 500; utilities 400; general/property insurance 250; POS/stock/web/connectivity systems 300; outreach 450; bookkeeping/payroll administration 250; repairs/upkeep 250; cleaning/refuse 150; other routine supplies 150. Insurance excludes workers' compensation within employer allowance; variable wrapping and payments are not repeated. Actual local offers, lease inclusions and nominal inflation are unverified.
- Model assumption
Applies to: Net completed-order value (base scenario) · Net completed-order value (lower sensitivity) · Net completed-order value (upper sensitivity)
Selected 42 USD net/order: 1.5 units/order ×[35% decor at 40 USD +25% accessories at 28 +20% sealed gift foods at 18 +20% stationery/cards at 17]=42. Weighted 28 USD/unit. Category unit shares total 100%; their prices are chosen net values, not market averages. Selected landed unit costs 20, 14, 9, 8.50 yield 14 weighted and 21/order, 50% of net price. Range 34–48 is alternative basket/mix scope; it does not prove the same stock becomes cheaper in a markdown. Sales tax excluded, ordinary discounts/refund selling value already netted.
- Model assumption
Applies to: Completed orders per trading day (base scenario) · Completed orders per trading day (lower sensitivity) · Completed orders per trading day (upper sensitivity)
Selected 40 completed orders/day, including repeats, with 28 lower and 55 higher. Base 5 orders/public hour, 48 public hours/week. Capacity diagnostic: 240 orders/week×6 min including ordinary wrapping=24 h; selected 720 nonbuying visits/week×20% needing 3 min=7.2 h; receiving/replenishment 12 h; opening/closing/control 6 h; paid breaks 6 h; total 55.2 task-hours within 88 non-admin paid hours. At 55 orders, proportionate selling/assistance/receiving plus fixed control/break tasks=71.4 h. These visits, service times and averages are assumptions, not measured conversion or a guarantee against queues. Hourly rota and exceptional wrapping need testing.
- Model assumption
Applies to: Trading days per week (base scenario) · Trading days per week (lower sensitivity) · Trading days per week (upper sensitivity)
Selected six eight-hour public trading days/week; five-day lower schedule and no seventh-day assumption. Shared 4.33 weeks/month convention equals 51.96 modeled trading weeks/year and 311.76 days. Payroll pays 52 weeks. Actual public holidays, peak shifts, breaks and closures require a calendar; six-day trading does not imply one employee works every shift.
- Model assumption
Applies to: Monthly fixed operating costs
16970 USD/month=(137640 annual paid-owner/team labor+66000 annual fixed overhead)/12. Owner labor and routine upkeep paid before surplus. The selected volume range holds this funded roster; greater peak cover or a replacement manager raises the fixed base.
- Model assumption
Applies to: Contribution margin
Selected 0.45=1−0.50 landed sold goods−0.015 stock loss−0.005 wrapping−0.03 payments. Not a national gift-shop margin or seller example. For same-unit markdown hold 21.84 USD/order nonpayment physical cost fixed and recalculate payment cost at 3% of reduced net price; holding 45% would wrongly imply cheaper existing stock. Actual processor costs also depend on tender and tax-inclusive receipts.
- Model assumption
Applies to: Opening sales as a share of mature volume · Monthly increase toward mature volume · Forecast horizon (months)
Selected start 50% of mature completed orders, add 8 percentage points/month capped at 100%, display 24 months. First 12 months match year-one sales before rounding. This is an authored launch path, not a measured seasonal series, repeat-customer lifetime or promised opening/break-even date.
